Marco Gatti, after many years as a nurseryman, in 1998 decided to dedicate his life to winemaking. Instead of planting new vines, he scouted a number of small plots of old vines, partially abandoned, and lovingly revived them. The 7 hectares of vines are grown at 900 feet above sea level near the town of Cerreto d’Esi, in the heart of the Matelica appellation, deep into the Marche inland. The microclimate is strongly influenced by the surrounding mountains which shield the vines from the sea winds and provide very cold winters and hot summers with dramatic temperature excursions from day to night, ideal for grape growing.
The Verdicchio that Marco Gatti makes, are wine of body, flesh and structure, lifted by vibrant acidity, deep and age worthy.
