ROBERT PARKER Wine Advocate (Antonio Galloni)

2009 Latium - Soave Campo le Calle  88 pts   The 2009 Soave Campo Le Calle is a gorgeous, classy white. A perfumed, floral bouquet melds into pears, peaches and spices as this textured Soave opens up in the glass. Readers will find wonderful detail and clarity here, not to mention terrific overall balance.

2007 Latium - Soave le Calle    87 pts   2007 Soave Le Calle is a delicious, joyous Soave. Perfumed, honeyed aromatics waft from the glass, followed by rich, ripe, yellow peaches. Though noticeably sweet on the palate, notes of minerality on the finish bring this expansive wine into focus.  These are the first wines I have tasted from Latium Morini, in Veneto.

2005 Latium - Valpolicella Superiore Campo Prognai    88 pts   The estate’s 2005 Valpolicella Superiore Campo Prognai is an intense yet soft-textured wine with gorgeous aromatics, super-ripe dark fruit and plenty of toasted oak. A more refined approach might put this wine in the company of the region’s top bottlings. The raw materials certainly seem to be present.
Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.

2003 Latium  - Amarone della Valpolicella Campo Leon    91 pts   Latium Morini-s 2003 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo Leon reveals notes of dark wild cherries, sweet herbs, tobacco, chocolate and toasted oak. This is a fairly restrained style for Amarone, yet the wine shows outstanding balance and tons of style. It is a very promising effort from this up and coming producer.
Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013.

2004 Latium - Amarone della Valpolicella Campo Leon  91 pts   The 2004 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo Leon emerges from the glass with an enticing bouquet of white truffles, roasted coffee beans and vibrant black cherries. This relatively accessible, mid-weight Amarone offers lovely balance in a fairly dry style. The wine should continue to drink nicely for a number of years.
Anticipated maturity: 2009-2014.

2006 Latium Morini Valpolicella Superiore Campo Progni   88 pts   The 2006 Valpolicella Superiore Campo Prognai is a dark, brooding wine endowed with layers of black cherries, spices, sweet herbs and leather. The wine possesses notable density and the fruit is quite beautiful and pure, yet there are elements – such as the oak – that are out of balance. Still, the underlying material is attractive.  This small property is located in Illasi, which lies in the eastern part of the Valpolicella district.

2008 Latium Morini Soave   88 pts   The 2008 Soave is a bright, floral wine with excellent clarity and freshness. This is a pretty and very accessible version of Veneto’s most famous white wine. The finish is long, round and polished.
Anticipated maturity: 2009-2010.

2008 Latium Morini Soave le Calle  88 pts    The 2008 Soave Campo Le Calle is a riper, more full-bodied Soave that emphasizes the variety’s honeyed tones and soft, caressing fruit. The wine’s volume should allow it to pair nicely with similarly rich dishes. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.

2008 Latium Morini Valpolicella   87 pts    The 2008 Valpolicella is a joyous wine bursting with ripe red fruit. This accessible, fragrant Valpolicella offers good balance in a friendly, affable style. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.

GAMBERO ROSSO 2008
The Morini family did well, earning more than flattering approval on their debut in the Guide. We liked the Amarone, which is profound, minerally and characterful. The rich Valpolicella Campo Prognai is still young, but full of potential.
